Paired Reading with Junior Infants
We had a lovely visit during the week from Junior Infants who came up to us to hear all about our Tír na nÓg Project.
Tír na nÓg
This week we listened to the old Irish story of Tír na nÓg. The kids then imagined they had found a portal that led them to this magical place. They illustrated what they thought what it might look like. Next week we will be using these images as a writing prompt to describe their lands. But in the meantime here is some of the fun we had with our images. Lots of giggling and playing with the iPads this week.

World Book Day 2017
Some pictures from World Book Day. :)
World Book Day will be celebrated in Carrigaline Educate Together National School on Thursday March 2nd.
We will be participating in a shared reading exercise on the day with Senior Infants.
On the day we will also be running a book swap. Children are encouraged to bring in a pre- loved book to swap for a different one . Any children who wish to participate should bring in their book and one Euro. Books will be collected early in the morning and children will then be given the opportunity to come to the Halla and pick a new one.
It has been tradition for both teachers and children to dress up on the day as favourite characters from stories so feel free to do so again this year if you wish. Please remind the children that scary costumes are not allowed.

Mythological Creatures
This week we have been learning about Mythological creatures and each of the children is busily working on a project about one of their choosing. But we are also doing some Creative Writing on the same theme. We used an app called Switch Zoo on the iPad to randomly create some bizarre creatures of our own. We got a few strange ones as you will see from the photos. We are going to create some back stories for our creatures so check back here again next week to see what we come up with. :)
The Iron Giant
We created a short animated movie of the Iron Giant by Brenda Williams.
