Homework 30 January-03 February 2017
Ancient Rome Project
The children are currently working on a project about Ancient Rome. This is a project that will continue until Christmas. Our goal is to create a digital book which we will publish to the iTunes Store. The children have been divided into groups with each group responsible for a different aspect of life at the time. Each of these areas will form a chapter in our book. For the moment I have simply asked the children to read and research as much as possible on their chosen area. The next step will be gathering all of that information and deciding what they want to keep and what they want to remove. They will also need to find images for their book. Please ensure that all images are sourced through Creative Commons or drawn by the children themselves. We will bone using the schools iPads to put together the book and hopefully we will be able to get it published before Christmas.
Khan Academy
I introduced the kids to this website today. This is a wonderful website. There are lots of tutorial videos like the ones I have been creating in Maths but will have more than I could ever create (as well as giving the children a break from hearing my voice constantly). :) 5th Grade is the closest to 4th Class level but please feel free to have a look at some of the lower grades if the kids need to look back on things they may not have fully grasped first time around.

Homework 07-11 November 2016
This week are being asked to write a story. I have asked them to spend Monday planning out there story. Over the course of the next few days they can work on writing and editing their story. It is up to them if they would like to type or write their story but if they are writing then they should try to make it as neat and legible as possible. I do not mind if they write in cursive or in standard writing.
Talking Tuesday
Amelia Earhart is seen as a hero to many people for her fearless bravery. Who are your heroes and why?
Tables
Each week the children will be asked to revise some of their Tables. Please ensure that they do practice these each night. Confidence in tables can be a great help in maths allowing the children to spend more time on more difficult parts of a question and spending less time on quick calculations.
Talking Tuesday
Tuesday is Talking Tuesday. Every Tuesday night the children will have a little reading but will also have an assignment where they will talk to their parents about a topic we have been talking about in class.
This week we have been talking about the Lunar landing in 1969. This brought up a discussion about seeing momentous occasions or events on TV. We all have memories of seeing something happening live on TV. I can distinctly remember seeing the Challenger Shuttle Disaster on TV and is a memory that has always stayed with me. Similarly the day Nelson Mandela was released and the Fall of the Berlin Wall are all events each of us have seen played out on our TV screens. What is your most abiding memory from TV? What events have you seen play out on live tv?
Word Problem Wednesday
On Wednesday the children's maths work will be based on a word problem rather than their Mental Maths.
