Quetzalcoatl Pterodactyl
One of our more unusual ones. We have been reading about massive animals and today we headed to the yard to draw a Quetzalcoatl Pterodactyl. It's probably pretty safe to say we are pretty glad these creatures aren't flying around in the sky today.

The Tallest Man in the World
this week while learning about metres and centimetres we had a visit from the tallest man in the world, Robert Wadlow.
Mega Maths Quiz
During the week the children took part in a Maths Quiz with children from 3rd to 6th classes. There was a lot of head scratching but huge congratulations to Maia who was on the winning team and to Justin who was in the runner up team.

Code Week 2016
Today the children completed the Hour of Code on the iPads. Some of the early finishers helped the other complete it and I definitely learned a new trick or two. There was some head scratching and maybe even a little hair pulling but everyone managed to complete it. Well done everyone. Who knows? We could have the next big thing in tech coming from 4th Class A.
Code Week 2016 is taking place this week and the children of 4th Class A are getting involved. A little later in the week we will be taking part in the Hour of Code which is a worldwide initiative to get more children coding. To whet the childrens appetite today we had a vsit from a BB8 droid (from Star Wars) and even flew a Parrot Drone around the Classroom. We also tried an introduction to Coding using the Apple Swift Playgrounds App on the iPads. This is a free app and despite many of the children never having coded before they all took part and had great success. We will also be exploring some Virtual Reality this week so it's going to be a busy one. It was as quiet as the Mannequin Challenge in the classroom for the last half hour of the day as the children followed the steps to complete the tasks. This is a quick video of the children at work.

Khan Academy
I introduced the kids to this website today. This is a wonderful website. There are lots of tutorial videos like the ones I have been creating in Maths but will have more than I could ever create (as well as giving the children a break from hearing my voice constantly). :) 5th Grade is the closest to 4th Class level but please feel free to have a look at some of the lower grades if the kids need to look back on things they may not have fully grasped first time around.

Polygons
This week we are doing 2 Dimensional Shapes. We have been learning the names of Polygons. See if you can pronounce the names of some of the more difficult ones. Who knew there were names for so many shapes?
